Job Title: Polysomnographic Technician Profession: Tech Specialty: Sleep Tech/Polysomnographic Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: One year of experience in a sleep medicine setting License: BLS Certifications: One of the following: RPGST, RST, or SDS Certification Must-Have: Epic experience Description: The Polysomnographic Technician performs routine and complex Polysomnographic recordings. The technician has a strong understanding of the technical aspects of the equipment used in monitoring. They recognize parameters used in recording. Technicians perform PSG and CPAP/BiPAP testing efficiently and effectively. The technician provides quality care to all patients. The Polysomnographic Technician demonstrates a willingness to assist others. They work well with minimal supervision and use strong, independent judgment. The technician follows department and hospital-wide policies and procedures during patient care. They are accountable for improving job knowledge and skills. Responsibilities include disconnecting patients from electrodes and assisting them as needed. The technician completes appropriate paperwork. They meet with and educate patients about the sleep study, sleep apnea, and CPAP titration. They monitor patients during sleep studies and respond accordingly following department policies and procedures. The technician properly connects patients with appropriate electrodes to perform sleep studies. They administer CPAP/BiPAP therapy in accordance with department policies and procedures.
