Description:
The Surgical Technologist serves as a primary scrub person or assistant for operative procedures.
Responsibilities include surgical prep, assisting during surgical cases, and post-case cleanup.
In surgical prep, the technologist scrubs into cases and ensures instruments and supplies are available.
They maintain the sterile field during setup and alert the circulating nurse of any identified risks.
During surgical cases, they pass instruments, assist the physician, and help with draping and patient positioning.
The technologist maintains sterile conditions and performs counts of instruments, sponges, and sharps.
Post-case, they work with the circulating nurse to clean and decontaminate instruments.
They are responsible for ensuring the surgical suite is disinfected and ready for the next procedure.
Compliance with hospital policies and procedures is expected.
The role requires effective communication and collaboration with co-workers.
The technologist should promote a high level of satisfaction among internal and external customers.
Attentiveness through active listening and engaged body language is essential.
Contributing to the team vision and addressing concerns directly is important.
