Job Title: Surgical Technologist Profession: Nursing Specialty: Surgical Technologist Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Variable shifts, 3 allowed forced calls per contract Hours per Shift: 36 guaranteed Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience preferred License: High School Diploma or Equivalent Certifications: American Heart Association BLS, Certified Surgical Technologist preferred Must-Have: Expertise in surgical technique, human anatomy, and surgical procedures. Description: The Surgical Technologist functions in the role of scrub person. Works under the supervision of the surgeon and the RN to ensure that the operating room environment is safe. Ensures that equipment functions properly. Conducts operative procedures under conditions that maximize patient safety. Responsible for assuring completion of case carts according to preference cards. Recognizes and interprets preference cards for procuring instruments and supplies. Communicates clearly with operating room staff and sterile processing staff members. Coordinates instrumentation throughout the day for scheduled and non-scheduled cases. Reviews the daily schedule with the charge nurse and identifies possible turnover delays. Assumes responsibility for the core phone and communications inherent with the position. Delegates duties accordingly and coordinates breaks and lunches with appropriate individuals. Acts as a resource for the procurement of necessary items for scheduled and non-scheduled surgical procedures. Communicates and coordinates with materials management regarding supply utilization. Ability to work in a busy and stressful environment. Ability to work varied shifts. Demonstrates strong emotional intelligence, interpersonal, and teamwork skills. Exhibits sound judgment, patience, and maintains a professional demeanor. Possesses creativity, problem analysis, and decision-making skills. Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize. Exercises tact, discretion, sensitivity, and maintains confidentiality. Regular and sustained attendance is required. The position may require working beyond a standard workweek, including weekends and after-hours shifts. On-call work may be necessary to respond promptly to organizational needs. Physical requirements include lifting, standing, walking, climbing, twisting, bending, and reaching as necessary. Fine finger movements and close visual acuity are necessary for the tasks involved. Exposure to bloodborne pathogens, radiation, chemicals, and emotionally challenging situations may occur.
