Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) by American Heart Association.
Must-Have: Completion of a Certified Surgical Technologist program and/or Licensed Surgical Technologist.
Description:
Assists during surgical procedures by ensuring and maintaining the integrity of a sterile surgical field.
Provides instrumentation as needed to the surgical team.
Participates in unit activities that assure high levels of quality related to patient care.
Functions under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
Possesses expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique.
Combines knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation of tools and technologies.
Maintains and checks all items for proper packaging, processing, moisture, seal and packaging integrity.
Ensures that the operating room environment is safe and that equipment functions properly.
Conducts operative procedures under conditions that maximize patient safety.
Monitors the sterile field for events that may contaminate, interfere, or alter the field.
Initiates or notifies of the need for corrective action under supervision.
Works towards competency with Tier 1 surgical cases.
Maintains flexibility while contributing to the ongoing delivery of care within the scope of practice.
Models effective, timely communication with the perioperative team.
Participates fully in Time Out Process including Briefings and Debriefings.
Assists the team in patient transports, room turnovers, and room preparation.
Models professional behavior by maintaining currency in new technologies and procedures.
Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization.
Role models the principles of a Just Culture.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Must be HIPAA compliant.
