Job Summary:
Assists the surgical team in the preparation of surgical procedures in the operating room.
Prepares surgical cases by creating and maintaining a sterile field.
Retracts and passes instruments, supplies, and medications to surgeons during surgical cases.
Performs a variety of technical skills, including maintenance of supplies.
Job Requirements:
Education and Work Experience:
High school education or GED required.
Associates or technical degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
Scrub technician experience preferred.
Operating room experience and/or training course preferred.
Licenses/Certifications:
Surgical Technician certification preferred.
CPR certification or Basic Life Support certification required.
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification preferred.
Essential Functions:
Prepares for each surgical case by checking required supplies and equipment prior to the case.
Assembles appropriate supplies and equipment prior to operative procedures.
Reviews equipment inventory for assigned specialty.
Sets up operative instrumentation and maintains a sterile field for retrieval and utilization.
Cleans equipment and facilities as necessary.
Performs housekeeping duties as requested.
Transports patients according to unit schedules and priorities.
Provides clerical duties.
Completes instrument, sponge, needle, and blade counts with the Registered Nurse according to established standards.
Maintains a neat and orderly sterile field with careful attention to aseptic technique.
Labels solutions according to established standards.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
