Description

American Traveler is hiring a Surgical ICU RN with Level I trauma experience for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring active IL RN licensure.

Details

  • Acute care Surgical ICU (SICU) unit with 13 beds
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios typically 1:2, with occasional 1:1 or 1:3
  • Patient population includes post-surgical, open abdomen, multi-system trauma, and endovascular cases
  • RNs are required to titrate drips including pressors, sedation, paralytics, and insulin
  • RNs are responsible for reading and interpreting their own telemetry strips
  • Charge nurse and 24/7 house supervisor support available on each shift
  • Nurse aides/patient care techs on unit at a 1:10 ratio
  • Intensivist in house approximately 0700-1900 with telemedicine and on-call attending support after hours
  • Respiratory therapy in ICU 24/7 with vent, CPAP, and BiPap equipment
  • Uses EPIC EMR
  • 12-hour night shifts from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
  • Weekend requirement of 6 shifts within a 6-week period
  • Holiday coverage required every other holiday
  • No call or standby requirements
  • Floating required to lower levels of care, including Stepdown (3 patients) or general medicine (5-6 patients) units
  • 13-week assignment

Requirements

  • Active IL RN license required, or confirmation that the application process has been initiated
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA) required
  • Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
  • Level I trauma center experience required
  • Prior ICU experience required
  • BSN not required for this position
  • Must pass a negative drug screen for all panels as OSF is a Drug-Free Campus

Additional Information

  • Provide critical care nursing to post-surgical, trauma, and endovascular patients in a Level I trauma ICU setting
  • Receive unit-specific orientation including 8 hours of EPIC and systems training, 8 hours with an educator, 4 hours of shadowing, and 12 hours with a preceptor on the unit
  • No specific scrub color or dress code requirements
  • Local rate available for clinicians with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility
  • No radius rule restricting eligibility for the position
  • COVID vaccination is not required for this facility
