Key Responsibilities

• Work under the direction and supervision of the attending physician to provide aid in exposure, hemostasis, closure, and other intraoperative technical functions during cardiac surgical procedures
• Perform preoperative and postoperative duties to support the needs of the surgical patient throughout the perioperative period
• Serve as 1st and/or 2nd assist on cardiac surgical procedures
• Cover regional call to support the Cardiac Surgery program across the system, including call coverage for Transplant (donor and recipient), requiring the ability to travel via car, ambulance, plane, and helicopter
• Maintain compliance with all policies, standards, and requirements related to the safe and secure handling of Protected Health Information (PHI)

Required Qualifications

• Graduation from an approved Surgical Assistant program
• Experience taking second call for a Cardiac service line
• Must be able to travel via car, ambulance, plane, and helicopter to support regional call coverage

Preferred Experience / Skills

• National certification from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)
• National certification from the Commission for the Certification of Surgical Assistants (NCCSA)
• National certification from the American Board of Surgical Assistants (ABSA)
