Job Title: Certified Surgical First Assistant Profession: Surgical First Assistant Specialty: Surgical First Assistant Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Variable Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum years of experience required License: Surgical First Assistant certification Certifications: CPR or BLS certification Must-Have: Surgical First Assistant certification, CPR/BLS certification Description: Provides assistance to the primary surgeon during a surgical procedure. Assists in visualization of the operating field. Provides hemostasis, tying or sewing, and other functions as determined by the primary surgeon. Works with the team in the operating room to ensure quality patient care. Maintains responsibility for performing routine assigned clinical tasks of limited complexity. Prepares and positions patients for surgery. Harvests surgical grafts and performs closure of incisions. Applies various wound dressings. Works under direct supervision or within defined parameters. Performs pre-and postoperative activities to facilitate optimal patient care. Verifies availability of surgical equipment and supplies. Prepares and maintains the operating room environment according to the surgical procedure. Obtains and reviews diagnostic studies for reference. Performs surgical hand scrub, gowning, and gloving. Coordinates and participates in draping of the patient. Verifies operative consent and other pertinent information. Elevates questions, problems, and significant challenges to more senior staff for direction. Reviews patient medical charts and associated documentation. Makes decisions regarding routine matters with minimal independent judgment. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Organizational Requirements: Commitment to the safety and well-being of associates and patients is essential. Compliance with vaccination requirements is a condition of employment.
