Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring an active IL RN license and at least one year of post-op surgical experience.

Details

  • Surgical Acute unit in an acute care hospital setting, 63 beds (49 private, 9 observation)
  • Patient ratios of 4-5 patients/RN on days and 5-6 patients/RN on nights, up to 1:6 days and 1:7 nights if needed
  • Common diagnoses include post-op surgical, trauma, and overflow medical patients requiring dressing changes, wound care, IV therapy, pain management, drains, NGs, central lines, and TPN
  • 12-hour night shifts from 1930-0730
  • Every other weekend required (Saturday and Sunday)
  • Rotating holiday requirement every other holiday
  • No call or standby requirement
  • Travelers float first to units with similar experience level
  • Uses EPIC EMR
  • Dedicated charge RNs on each shift who do not take patient assignments, plus 24/7 house supervisor support
  • PCTs support the unit with ratios of 7-10 patients/PCT on days and 10-15 patients/PCT on nights
  • Telemetry monitoring available with central monitor techs; bedside RNs are not required to read strips
  • RNs are not required to titrate drips other than Heparin
  • No ventilator management required; RT manages nebulizers while RNs manage inhalers and CPAP placement

Requirements

  • Active IL RN license required
  • BLS certification (AHA) required
  • Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
  • Post-op surgical care experience and strong critical thinking skills required
  • Comfortable managing drains, NGs, central lines, and TPN
  • Team-oriented with good bedside manner
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and middle initial required for consideration
  • Negative drug screen required (OSF is a Drug-Free Campus)

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care for post-op surgical, trauma, and overflow medical patients including wound care, dressing changes, and pain management
  • Unit-specific orientation includes 2 shifts with a preceptor plus one 12-hour shift focused on EPIC and professional orientation with a unit educator
  • Any scrub color permitted
  • Block scheduling may be considered if approved at time of contract; travelers do not self-schedule
  • Local candidates accepted; local rate applies for clinicians with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility
  • COVID vaccination is not required
  • RTO requests must be submitted at time of consideration
