Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Stroke/Neuro Progressive Care Unit position requiring active VA or compact RN licensure and prior Neuro PCU experience.

Details

• Night shift schedule with 3x12-hour shifts (6:45pm-7:15am)
• Telemetry PCU specializing in hospitalist medicine, stroke, and neurology patients
• Joint Commission certified primary stroke center
• Typical patient ratio is 1:5, with a staffing goal of 1:4
• Manages a range of IV drips including Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, Amiodarone, Nitro, and others
• Remote telemetry monitoring with tele-sitting for increased Patient Care Tech coverage
• Floating required within skillset to PCU, IMC, and stepdown units
• Weekend requirement of either every-other-weekend or 6 shifts per 6-week block
• Facility may call off staff up to 1 shift per 2 weeks
• Requires 1 holiday worked per 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active VA state or compact RN license required, unless candidate holds a single-state license from a non-compact state
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience, preferably at a hospital with 250+ beds
• Neuro PCU experience required
• Epic charting experience required
• Skilled in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and use of Rapid Response/Code teams
• Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care
• Experience managing cardiac drips without titration
• Respiratory care skills including nasal cannula, oxygen administration, and non-invasive airway management
• Knowledge of isolation precautions and PPE use

Additional Information

• Provide telemetry-level nursing care to hospitalist medicine, stroke, and neurology patients
• Support a Joint Commission certified primary stroke center within a Level I Trauma Center and Magnet-designated teaching hospital
• Work alongside Patient Care Techs and tele-sitting support staff
• First-time travelers may be considered if candidate has strong experience at a similar facility, though prior travel experience is preferred
• Local candidates may be accepted under specific radius-based eligibility criteria
• Previous employees must have a minimum one-year break before returning as a traveler
• Travelers who have completed 365 days on assignment are not eligible to return, barring case-by-case exceptions
• All RTO requests must be submitted upfront prior to assignment start
