Job Title: Sterile Processing Tech (SPT) Team Lead Profession: Surgical Services Specialty: Sterile Processing Duration: Temporary to Permanent Opportunity Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 8 hours (7:00 AM - 3:30 PM) Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of sterile processing experience required. License: Not required Certifications: Required certifications include CBSPD and/or CRCST HSPA. Must-Have: Prior leadership experience and familiarity with electronic instrument tracking systems preferred. Description: The Sterile Processing Supervisor provides operational and technical leadership for the Sterile Processing Department. This role ensures the safe, efficient, and compliant reprocessing of surgical instruments and medical devices. The supervisor directly oversees Lead Technicians, Sterile Processing Technicians I, II, III, and Non-Certified Technicians. Daily workflow coordination, staff competency, quality assurance, regulatory compliance, and customer service are key responsibilities. The supervisor is responsible for daily assignment of staff based on workload, case volume, and departmental priorities. Oversight of instrument tracking systems and documentation accuracy is essential for this position. The role involves coordination of daily SPD operations to meet surgical and procedural case demands. Monitoring tray turnaround times, instrument availability, and case cart readiness is critical. Troubleshooting equipment, instrument, and workflow issues in real time is required. Ensuring proper segregation of clean/dirty workflows and adherence to infection prevention practices is necessary. Compliance with relevant guidelines and regulatory standards is a key aspect of the role. The supervisor is also responsible for auditing tray assembly accuracy, count sheets, and labeling requirements. Addressing service concerns and implementing service recovery when needed is part of this position. Participation in interdisciplinary meetings related to instrumentation, workflow, and quality initiatives is expected. The role includes monitoring adherence to infection control, safety, and universal precautions across the department. Organizing, storing, and distributing instruments, trays, and equipment to ensure availability is crucial. Preparation of instrument trays and equipment for sterilization processes is part of the day-to-day duties. Decontamination and sterilization of instruments, medical supplies, and equipment are required tasks. Knowledge of sterilization principles, microbiology, and infection prevention practices is essential. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills are necessary for success in this role. The ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment is crucial. Basic computer proficiency for documentation and recordkeeping is expected. Advanced certification is preferred. Experience as a preceptor or trainer is preferred. Familiarity with electronic instrument tracking systems is preferred.
