Registered Nurse (RN) - Med Surg

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in Medical Surgical care. The position involves working night shifts with potential options for 3x12 hour shifts. Travelers will be required to work weekends, typically every other or third weekend, including holiday rotations.

Unit Details

• Patient Types: Post TNK, Ortho, Crani-neurosurgery, laminectomies, polytrauma
• Floating may be required across other medical surgical units
• Staffing Ratios: 1:5-6
• Bed Size: 25 beds
• Drugs and Treatments: Heparin gtts, PCAs, 3% sodium
• Equipment: Lift equipment, telemetry, chest tubes, airvo

Responsibilities

The Registered Nurse will provide comprehensive care to patients, monitor vital signs, administer medications, and collaborate with healthcare teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes. The role will involve floating across multiple locations within the region as needed.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 24 months of Stepdown, Progressive Care, or Medical Surgical experience in a hospital setting
• Neuro/neurology care experience is required
• Ortho/orthopedic care experience is required
• Trauma care experience is preferred
• Experience with EPIC electronic medical records is required
• No first-time travelers; candidates must have completed at least one travel contract within the past 12 months
• Experience using/lifting equipment, chest tubes, and airvo is required
• Experience with administering heparin and PCAs is required
• Experience with administering 3% sodium is preferred
• ACLS certification is preferred

Certification Requirements

• BLS (AHA)
• NIHSS certification (can be obtained during onboarding)

Additional Requirements

All candidates must have an active Iowa license or a Compact/Multistate license at the time of submission. A de-escalation certificate may also be needed. Professional references from supervisors or managers within the last 24 months are preferred.
