Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Stepdown Care Unit position requiring ICU/Intermediate experience with trach and vent skills.

Details

  • Acute care setting in a 20-bed Stepdown Care Unit with 8 private and 12 semi-private rooms
  • Nurse to patient ratio of 3 to 1
  • Care for patients with a wide range of medical conditions including COPD, CHF, DM, sepsis, renal issues, DKA, alcohol withdrawal, overdoses, pneumonia, and other respiratory conditions, along with some neuro/surgical/cardiac patients
  • Manage patients on Bipap, Cpap, face mask ventilators, trachs, and ventilator-dependent trach patients
  • Manage chest tubes, g-tubes, NG tubes, PICC lines, and central lines
  • RNs are required to titrate drips including Cardene, Cardizem, Amio, Dobutamine, Heparin, and low-dose or infrequent vasopressors
  • All patients are on bedside Phillips monitors with tele techs interpreting strips for RN confirmation
  • Charge nurse and house supervisor coverage available on every shift
  • 2 PCTs per shift, taking up to 10 patients each when unit is full
  • Uses EPIC EMR
  • 12-hour night shifts, 7pm-7am
  • Every other weekend required, with night shift working Fri/Sat
  • Every other holiday rotation required, plus the companion day of major holidays
  • No call or standby requirements
  • Travel RNs float first, potentially to ICU with extensive ICU experience, or to other Stepdown or Gen Med units based on required level of care

Requirements

  • Active IL RN license required
  • BLS (AHA) certification required
  • ACLS certification recommended
  • Minimum 1 year of experience required
  • ICU or Intermediate (Stepdown) experience with a 3:1 or 2:1 nurse to patient ratio required
  • Progressive care or telemetry-only experience is not sufficient
  • Trach and vent experience required due to frequent trach/vented patients on the unit
  • EPIC EMR experience

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care including drip titration, ventilator management, and monitoring of trach and vent patients
  • Collaborate with tele techs for strip interpretation and confirmation
  • Unit orientation includes 1 day for EPIC, 1 day with the unit educator, and 1 day on the floor with an RN
  • Scrubs of any color are permitted
  • Local candidates within 50 miles are eligible at a reduced local rate with no radius restriction on eligibility
  • Negative drug screen required for all panels as part of OSF's Drug-Free Campus policy
