Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Cardiac Stepdown/Telemetry unit requiring 2+ years of cardiac experience and BLS/ACLS certification.

Details

  • Stepdown Cardiac unit within a hospital setting
  • Night shift, 3x12 hours (1845-0715), 36 hours per week
  • Patient ratio of 1:6
  • Weekend coverage required: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week period
  • Float required as needed within or near the facility
  • No on-call requirements
  • Patient population includes Atrial Fibrillation, CHF, ACS, CAD, valve disorders, endocarditis, cardiomyopathy, PVD/PAD, vasculitis, carotid stenosis, and venous stasis
  • Supports patients post CABG, AVR, MVR, TAVR, Mitral Clip, LAAO (Watchman), VATS, carotid endarterectomy, Fem-Pop bypass, amputations, and other cardiac/thoracic/vascular surgeries
  • Cares for patients post cath, post DCCV, post electrophysiology procedures, and pacemaker placements
  • Utilizes equipment including Doppler, bladder scanner, EKG, femoral sheaths, TR band, Fem-stop, chest tubes, and epicardial pacing wires
  • Arterial line use not required
  • Uses Pyxis, EPIC, and SBAR for medication, documentation, and communication
  • 24-hour unit orientation

Requirements

  • Active NC or Compact RN license required (pending acceptable at submission)
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required; NIHSS preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of cardiac nursing experience required
  • MS/Tele or Stepdown experience preferred
  • Epic charting experience preferred
  • Skills in IV therapy/phlebotomy and starting/maintaining IVs required
  • Experience with central line care, peripheral line care, and arterial line management preferred
  • Experience managing and titrating cardiac drips
  • Experience with wound care/wound vac preferred
  • Experience with radial artery lines preferred
  • Skilled in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Must pass EKG testing prior to start

Additional Information

  • Provide cardiac telemetry nursing care including cardiac monitoring and emergency response
  • May be assigned to a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team and required to report during catastrophic events or mass casualty situations
  • Scrub requirement: navy blue pants with a white top
  • Holiday coverage required: must work 2 of 3 major holidays
  • Up to 7 days of RTO can be auto-approved if not on a holiday; no RTO permitted during the first week of assignment
  • Additional RTO requests after signing are not accepted
  • First-time travelers accepted only if they have more than 24 months of cardiac experience
  • Previous Novant Health/New Hanover employees (PERM/PRN/EP) must wait 12 months before reapplying and must disclose prior employment details
  • Travel pairs allowed if assigned to different units, have separate transportation, and accept different schedules
  • Local candidates accepted within 50 miles at a local rate
  • Longer contract lengths through 2/27/2027 will be considered
