Job Summary:
Step Down Unit Nurse in a healthcare facility located in a large metropolitan area. This position involves providing care for adult and geriatric patients with complex medical conditions, often requiring close monitoring and specialized skills. The role requires flexibility to float between units and adherence to supportive interdisciplinary collaboration.
Job Details:
- Schedule: Rotating shifts of 12 hours, with a minimum of 36 hours per week.
- Required Qualifications: Valid California Registered Nurse license. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. A minimum of 2 years of experience in telemetry or step down units. Must have completed references prior to submission.
- Certifications: ACLS, BLS, PCCN.
- Skills: Managing arterial lines, blood product administration, central line care, chest tube management, epidural analgesia, feeding tube care, Heparin protocols, high flow nasal cannula management, ABG interpretation, dysrhythmia management, infection control precautions, IV insulin protocols, management of cardiac drips, tracheostomy care, rapid response team use, wound care, and telemetry monitoringincluding remote capabilities.
- Float: Ability to float to other UCSF campuses if needed.
- Community Hospital Experience: Not specified.
- Travel Experience Required: Yes.
- Patient Age Groups: Adults, Geriatrics.
- Patient Census: 30 patients daily.
- Additional Unit Information: Fast-paced environment with frequent transfers to ICUrequires rapid interventions and respiratory management including Trach suctioning and HFNC. Multi-co-morbid patients with complex medical histories.
- Start Date: 10/06/2026.
- End Date: 01/05/2027.
- Orientation Hours: 24 hours prior to start.
- Submittal Requirements: Two references from the most recent employer, proven work experience in step down units, and valid CA RN license. All employment history with UC medical facilities must be provided.
- RTO (Reason To Off): All requests must be disclosed at submittal and approved at the time of offer; no mid-contract requests accepted.
- Module Completion: Pre-start and annual modules as per unit requirements, ranging from 1 to 24 hours.
- Start Date Flexibility: Monday or Tuesday start, with approval needed for any early start.
