Job Summary
Step Down Unit Nurse in an acute care facility is needed from October 19, 2026, to January 18, 2027. This role involves providing specialized nursing care on a 29-bed step-down/med-surg unit designed for patients requiring close monitoring and medical management. The position requires handling diverse patient diagnoses and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Job Details
- Position: Registered Nurse (RN) Step Down Unit
- Shift Schedule: Days, 12-hour shifts, minimum 36 hours per week
- Required Qualifications: BLS (AHA); minimum 1 year of nursing experience; valid nursing license; must have EPIC experience; able to handle 6 patient (med-surg) or 3 patient (step-down) caseloads; experience with titrating drips such as Heparin, insulin, anti-hypertensives, anti-arrhythmics, phenobarbitol, ketamine, morphine/dilaudid/fentanyl PCAs, TPN
- Preferred Qualifications: Experience on a similar step-down/med-surg unit preferred
- Additional Information: Unit utilizes remote telemetry surveillance with Phillips telemetry monitoring equipment; RN read strips via centralized monitoring; first to float or be pulled to other floors/step-down units; unit employs nurse aides (Clinical Associates) with a ratio of 1:10; charge RNs and house supervisors are present 24/7; equipment includes CPAP, BiPAP, HiFlow, vents; no call or standby required, but agency RN positions may include weekend work and holidays; orientation includes unit-specific training, with a cancellation policy of 2 shifts per 13-week assignment.
