Job Summary:
The step down unit nurse position is located in an acute care healthcare facility in Omaha, Nebraska. The role involves providing specialized care to adult patients, many arriving through the emergency room, with a focus on medical, surgical, cardiac, and stroke patients. The unit features a 28-bed capacity, with a patient-to-nurse ratio of 1:4, and supports a high flow environment with frequent admissions, transfers, and discharges.
Job Details:
- Schedule: Days shift, from 06:30 AM to 07:00 PM, with a minimum of 36 hours per week in a 12-hour shift rotation.
- Required Qualifications: Certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS); at least 2 years of recent clinical experience in a step down or similar unit; valid license to practice in Nebraska.
- Preferred Qualifications: Experience with high flow units, adult patient care, and interpreting telemetry monitoring.
- Floats: Float rotation may be required to Med/Surg areas and other hospital units, including ICU and Emergency Department, depending on abilities.
- Duties: Providing care to adult patients, titrating drips such as Heparin, Octreotide, and insulin, managing patient transfers, and collaborating with team members. RNs are required to work collaboratively, with positive teamwork attitude.
- Additional Information: The role includes classroom orientation followed by two 12-hour shifts for unit-specific training. Nurses will be required to work six weekend shifts over a six-week scheduling period and will rotate holiday shifts with permanent staff. The dress code is navy blue scrubs. Candidates must be willing to work in a high-flow environment with frequent admissions and discharges, and should be able to read and interpret telemetry data.
