Job Summary
A registered nurse specializing in Step Down Units is needed for a night shift position in an acute care setting. The role involves caring for patients with diverse medical, neuro, and surgical conditions, including respiratory, cardiac, neurological, and post-operative cases. The position requires a minimum of one year of relevant experience and proper licensure to ensure compliance with organizational standards.
Job Details
- Schedule: Night shift, 12 hours per shift, minimum of 36 hours per week
- Required Qualifications: Valid active Illinois nursing license or confirmation that the application process has been initiated; BLS certification required; ACLS recommended; at least 1 year of clinical experience in ICU/Intermediate or Step Down units; experience with ventilated and trached patients; ability to titrate drips such as Cardene, Cardizem, Amio, Dobutamine, Heparin, and vasopressors; knowledge of telemetry monitoring; proficiency in reading bedside monitors (Phillips monitors); proven ability to work in a fast-paced critical care environment
- Preferred Qualifications: Extensive ICU/Intermediate experience; experience with complex respiratory and post-surgical patients; familiarity with EPIC charting system; ability to float to ICU, Step Down, or General Medical units as needed
- Additional Information: The unit accommodates 21 beds with a nurse-patient ratio of 3:1. Two patient care technicians support each shift, each caring for up to 10 patients if the unit is full. Nurses are expected to participate in the organizations holiday and weekend rotation schedule. No call or standby requirements. Floating to other units including ICU is possible based on experience. Orientation involves a one-day training on EPIC, a one-day unit orientation, and one day on the floor with an RN.
