Job Summary:
Step Down Unit Registered Nurse (RN) position in an acute care setting. The role involves providing advanced nursing care for patients with a broad range of medical, neuro, and surgical conditions, including ventilator and trach management. The RN will work 12-hour day shifts, supporting patient care with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 3 to 1, and participate in a variety of clinical tasks and responsibilities within the unit.

Job Details:

  • Schedule: 12-hour day shifts, working a minimum of 36 hours per week
  • Required Qualifications: Active Illinois nursing license or confirmation that the application process has been initiated, minimum 1 year of relevant nursing experience, BLS certification (AHA) required; ACLS recommended
  • Department: Stepdown | RN beds: 21 beds, including 9 private and semi-private rooms
  • Common diagnoses/patient types: COPD, CHF, DM, Sepsis, End Stage Renal Disease (hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis), Liver failure, Pancreatitis, GI Bleeds, DKA, Alcohol withdrawal/Overdoses, Complex Pneumonia, stroke, seizures, post-op craniotomy, trauma, cardiac, ventilated patients with trach and vent management, chest tubes, G tubes, NG tubes, PICC lines, central lines, arterial lines, and more
  • Experience or 'Must have' skills: ICU/Intermediate (Stepdown) nursing experience with a nurse to patient ratio of 3 to 1 or 2 to 1; trach and vent experience mandatory, along with titration of drips including Cardene, Cardizem, Amio, Dobutamine, Heparin, vasopressors when titration is infrequent or low dose
  • Additional information: Charge nurse available on each shift; two patient care technicians per shift; bedside monitors by Phillips; RN's required to read their own strip interpretation; unit orientation includes 1 day for EPIC, 1 day shared with educator, and 1 day on the floor with an RN; floating may include ICU or general med units depending on experience; scrubs of any color acceptable.
