Job Summary
Step Down Unit RN Days Deaconess Gateway
Located in the region, this contract position involves providing specialized care in a 16-bed step down unit within a teaching hospital. The role requires enhanced critical thinking skills and the ability to manage complex patient cases, including cardiac interventions, neuro assessments, and post-surgical care. It offers an engaging environment with opportunities to precept students and new hires as needed.
Job Details
- Schedule: Days shift, 12 hours per shift, minimum of 36 hours per week, starting on 11/02/2026, with an end date of 01/31/2027.
- Required Qualifications: Current active compact license, AHA BLS, AHA ACLS, NIHSS, minimum of 2 years RN experience, including at least 1 year of step down experience, and 1 travel assignment. Recent EPIC charting experience required.
- Preferred Qualifications: Experience with stable home vents, PleurX, lumber drains, VP shunts, Narcan drips, and strong assessment and critical thinking skills.
- Float: Float to Deaconess Midtown (IN) campus and potential to float to Deaconess Henderson (KY) with a 2-hour notice for cross-campus float.
- On Call/Call Back: Not required.
- Weekend/Holiday Requirement: Three weekends every six weeks and every other holiday.
- Certifications: Must have current active compact license, AHA BLS, AHA ACLS, and NIHSS.
- Patient Population: Cardiac post-interventions, neuro assessments, sepsis, DKA, CVA, feeding tubes, and other complex clinical cases.
- Additional Information: This role involves performing TE LE/12-lead EKG interpretation, initiating and titrating drips, and conducting post-surgical assessments. The unit benefits from excellent CNA support and teamwork.
