Job Summary:
The Step Down Unit Nurse position is located in Evansville, Indiana. This role involves providing care for post-procedure cardiac, neuro, and sepsis patients during night shifts in a 19-bed blended unit. The position emphasizes critical thinking, comprehensive assessments, and the ability to manage complex patient populations.
Job Details:
- Schedule: 12-hour night shifts from 6:30 PM to 7:00 AM, with a minimum of 36 hours per week.
- Required Qualifications: Must have a current active compact license, AHA Basic Life Support (BLS), AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), NIHSS certification, and at least 2 solid years of experience in a Stepdown Unit, or 5 years of solid Stepdown experience if no travel experience. Recent EPIC charting experience required, with a checkoff class needed.
- Preferred Qualifications: Strong neuro assessments, interpretation of tele/12-lead EKGs, and experience with post-heart cath care, titrating drips (e.g., Cardizem, Amio, nitro, insulin, Heparin), sepsis care, chest tubes, and PIV insertion.
- Float: Float within skillset; first to float within the same campus, with potential to float to nearby campuses with a two-hour notice.
- Additional Information: The unit has 19 beds, with 8 designated stepdown beds. Nurse to patient ratios are 1:5-6 during days and 1:4 during nights. The unit is a teaching hospital, potentially requiring preceptorship of students and new hires. Navy blue scrubs are required with no competing logos. The assignment includes holiday rotation and adherence to call-in policies.
