  • Float Requirement: ICU and step-down/PCU assignments within scope
  • Charting: Epic
  • Orientation: 24 hours
  • Scheduling: Block scheduling is not available; up to 7 days of requested time off may be considered

Travel ICU RN Job Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Connecticut, active before the start date
  • At least 2 years of recent ICU or SICU nursing experience
  • Experience caring for critically ill adult and geriatric patients
  • ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications
  • Experience with Epic or another electronic health record system
  • Demonstrated competency in airway management, ventilator care, arterial lines, central lines, continuous sedation, and vasoactive medication titration
  • Ability to interpret arterial blood gases and dysrhythmias
  • Willingness to float to step-down/PCU assignments as needed and within scope
  • Current influenza vaccination is required; COVID-19 vaccination is not required
  • One professional reference is required
  • Local candidates within 75 miles are not eligible for this opportunity

SICU Travel Nurse Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients in a mixed-acuity surgical ICU and step-down environment
  • Manage patients with vascular, spine, emergency general surgery, urology, ENT, and medical ICU-related diagnoses
  • Assess, monitor, and respond to changes in patients with multisystem organ dysfunction or failure
  • Provide care for ventilated patients and manage advanced airway needs
  • Monitor arterial and central lines and interpret hemodynamic and laboratory data
  • Titrate vasoactive drips and continuous IV sedation according to clinical status and orders
  • Recognize and manage dysrhythmias and interpret electrocardiographic findings
  • Maintain isolation precautions and follow evidence-based infection prevention practices
  • Collaborate with respiratory therapy, pharmacy, rapid response teams, IV services, rehabilitation, radiology, social services, and other interdisciplinary partners
  • Document accurately in Epic while promoting safe, compassionate, and patient-centered critical care
