Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Surgical ICU position at a Level I Trauma Center, requiring MICU/SICU experience and independent management of high-acuity trauma, neuro, and surgical patients.

Details

  • Work in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) of a Level I Trauma Center
  • Night shift schedule (3x12 hours), 19:00-7:30, with possible block scheduling for day/night shifts
  • Patient ratio of 1:2
  • Cares for complex, high-acuity medical, trauma, neuro, and surgical ICU patients
  • Floats primarily within the Critical Care Division, with additional floating to other units as census needs require
  • Weekend requirements vary based on unit needs
  • Cerner charting system experience preferred

Requirements

  • Active RN license (MT or Compact) currently in hand
  • Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
  • PALS certification preferred
  • Minimum 1+ year of experience in specialty required
  • MICU and/or SICU experience required; float pool-only experience does not meet position requirements
  • Level I Trauma experience required; Level II Trauma experience preferred
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred
  • Previous charge experience preferred
  • Proficiency in skills including IV therapy, arterial line management, central and PICC line care, blood product administration, and TPN/lipids administration
  • Experience with ventilator management, ABG interpretation, and care of ventilated patients
  • Experience managing vasoactive and cardiac drips, and continuous IV sedation
  • Experience with neurological care including EVD, ICP monitoring, and post-craniotomy/neurosurgery management
  • References required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Provide independent, competent nursing care to high-acuity trauma, neuro, and surgical ICU patients
  • Not suitable for novice or entry-level RNs
  • Must reside within a 75-mile radius of the facility; local candidates not accepted
  • Previous permanent employees must have a 2-year break in employment before returning
  • License or background check hits considered on a case-by-case basis
  • Facility does not typically float travelers to affiliate hospitals unless otherwise agreed upon during interview or offer
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply provided they meet the experience requirements
