Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Surgical/Trauma ICU night shift position requiring VA or compact RN license and Epic experience.

Details

  • 15-bed Surgical/Trauma ICU in a Level 1 trauma teaching hospital
  • Cares for adult surgical and trauma critical care patients with a 1:2 patient ratio
  • Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (7:00 PM-7:00 AM)
  • Works every other weekend and 2 of the 3 winter holidays
  • Can offer 36 or 48 hours per week
  • Block scheduling cannot be accommodated or guaranteed
  • Required to float within scope of practice per facility policy
  • Uses Epic EMR

Requirements

  • Active VA or compact RN license (pending license accepted, must be in hand by the Wednesday before start)
  • BLS and ACLS certification required; TNCC preferred
  • Minimum 1 year of recent SICU experience
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • BSN preferred
  • Teaching hospital and Level I/II trauma experience preferred
  • Skilled in IV therapy, arterial line management, blood product administration, central and PICC line care
  • Experience with ventilated patients, HFNC, ABG interpretation, and ETT/NT suctioning
  • Experience titrating vasoactive drips and administering continuous IV sedation
  • Experience with EVD, ICP monitoring, spinal cord injury, and traumatic brain injury care preferred
  • Skilled in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia management, and multisystem organ dysfunction care
  • Two professional references required

Additional Information

  • Provide direct critical care nursing to adult surgical and trauma ICU patients
  • Assist with chest tube insertion/removal and procedural sedation monitoring as needed
  • Complete specialty-specific orientation modules (up to 16 non-billable hours) recorded in Workday
  • Maximum of 40 hours RTO permitted per 13-week contract, must be disclosed prior to submission
  • Any vacation time between sign date and start date must be disclosed to arrange an appropriate start date
  • Previous UVA permanent staff or traveler employment requires 1-year separation and leadership approval
  • External travelers may not exceed 365 total assignment days at this facility and are not eligible to return after reaching that limit
  • No radius rule applies to this position
