Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a Short Stay Unit position requiring active IL licensure and prior gen med/surg experience.

Details

• Acute care Short Stay Unit with 13 beds and a 1:5 nurse-to-patient ratio
• Patient population includes stroke, trauma, cardiac, and general medical diagnoses (UTI, COPD, cellulitis)
• Fast-paced unit with high patient turnover
• 12-hour day shifts (0700-1930) and night shifts (1900-0730) available
• 36 guaranteed hours per week with 12 non-billable orientation hours
• Charge RN available 24/7 who also carries a patient assignment, along with a house supervisor
• PCT support available: 2 on days, 1 on nights, assisting with patient care, vitals, accu checks, and hourly rounding
• House-wide telemetry monitoring using Phillips monitors; RNs not required to read EKG strips
• BiPAP, CPAP, and high flow equipment used for PRN orders or overnight; RNs not required to titrate drips
• Uses EPIC EMR
• Weekend requirement of 6 shifts within a 6-week schedule
• Holiday coverage required every other holiday
• No on-call or standby requirements
• Travelers may be floated first to other departments, often in a team nursing support role if floated to higher acuity units

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required
• BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• General med/surg nursing skills and experience required
• BSN not required

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care for a high-turnover general medical/surgical unit
• Unit-specific orientation includes 1-2 shifts with a preceptor
• No specific scrub color required; scrubs not provided; pediatric-themed scrub tops should be avoided
• Negative drug screen required for all panels as OSF is a Drug-Free Campus
• COVID vaccination not required
• Local candidates accepted; clinicians with a permanent address within 50 miles are eligible for a local rate
