Key Responsibilities
Evaluate patients and develop treatment plans; conduct physician-prescribed respiratory treatments including operation of invasive and non-invasive ventilatory equipment, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizer devices
Perform chest physiotherapy, suctioning (oropharyngeal, nasal, and tracheal), oximetry and capnography monitoring, pulmonary function studies, and arterial puncture
Perform 12-Lead EKG, basic arrhythmia recognition, and routine review of patient chest x-rays
Assist with respiratory-related procedures including bronchoscopy, percutaneous tracheostomies, and chest tube placement; perform tracheostomy care including insertion and removal of tracheostomy tubes
Perform insertion and removal of endotracheal tubes via freehand technique and/or video laryngoscope; set up, self-test, operate, and monitor mechanical ventilation equipment
Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation in accordance with BLS and ACLS guidelines; document all treatments, patient responses, and respiratory therapy charges accurately
Required Qualifications
Active Respiratory Therapist license valid in the state of Kentucky
Current BLS certification required
Current ACLS certification required
Ability to operate and maintain a wide range of ventilatory and respiratory therapy equipment with minimal supervision
Competency in arterial puncture, pulmonary function testing, and moderate complexity laboratory procedures where applicable
Preferred Experience / Skills
Experience with video laryngoscope systems for endotracheal intubation
Familiarity with PleurX catheter or similar chest drainage devices
Experience communicating clinical findings with attending and pulmonary physicians in a fast-paced hospital environment
