Key Responsibilities
- Provide intensive respiratory care and patient transport as medically prescribed, within the scope of professional licensure and with minimal supervision; evaluate patients and recommend treatment plans
- Operate invasive and non-invasive ventilatory equipment, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizer devices to administer prescribed medications, humidification, ventilation, and oxygenation
- Perform arterial puncture, oximetry, capnography monitoring, pulmonary function studies, 12-Lead EKG, and basic arrhythmia recognition according to policy
- Perform tracheostomy care including insertion and removal of tracheostomy tubes (emergent and non-emergent), as well as insertion and removal of endotracheal tubes via free-hand technique and/or video laryngoscope system
- Assist with respiratory-related procedures such as bronchoscopy, percutaneous tracheostomies, and chest tube placement; perform chest physiotherapy and suctioning by various methods
- Accurately document all treatments, patient responses, and respiratory therapy charges; communicate patient status during shift-to-shift walking rounds and with attending and pulmonary physicians
Required Qualifications
- Active Respiratory Therapist license or certification required
- BLS and ACLS certification required
- Ability to operate and maintain mechanical ventilation equipment, including set-up and self-testing
- Competency in performing arterial blood gas analysis and interpreting results to determine ventilation efficiency
- Ability to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation in accordance with BLS and ACLS guidelines
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Experience in a moderate complexity laboratory setting with knowledge of specimen handling, quality controls, and equipment maintenance
- Familiarity with PleurX catheter drainage or similar chest drainage devices
- Experience with video laryngoscope systems for endotracheal intubation
