Key Responsibilities
Provides intensive respiratory care and patient transport into and out of the facility as medically prescribed, within the scope of professional licensure and with minimal supervision
Conducts physician-prescribed treatments operating various ventilatory equipment (invasive and non-invasive), oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizer devices to administer prescribed medications, humidification, ventilation, and oxygenation
Performs arterial puncture, pulmonary function studies, chest physiotherapy, suctioning, oximetry, capnography monitoring, 12-Lead EKG, and basic arrhythmia recognition
Performs tracheostomy care including insertion and removal of tracheostomy tubes, as well as insertion and removal of endotracheal tubes via free-hand technique and/or video laryngoscope system
Assists with respiratory-related procedures such as bronchoscopy, percutaneous tracheostomies, and chest tube placement; performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation per BLS and ACLS guidelines
Records all pertinent treatment information and patient responses in respiratory care records and patient charts; communicates with attending and pulmonary physicians regarding therapy effectiveness
Required Qualifications
Current Virginia Respiratory Therapist license required
BLS certification required
ACLS certification required
Ability to operate and maintain mechanical ventilation equipment and perform equipment self-tests
Availability to cover Christmas and one additional major holiday during the contract period
Preferred Experience / Skills
Experience with moderate complexity laboratory testing protocols including pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic phases
Familiarity with PleurX catheter drainage and similar chest drainage devices
Experience with video laryngoscope systems for endotracheal intubation
