Description

American Traveler is seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist with 2+ years of Adult Critical Care and NICU experience for a night shift position at a teaching hospital.

Details

  • Work in the Respiratory/Neuro Diagnostics department at a short-term acute care teaching hospital that is a member of the Council of Teaching Hospitals (COTH)
  • Facility has 338 staffed beds
  • Night shift schedule of 4x12 hour shifts from 18:30 to 7:00
  • Every other weekend required with holiday coverage expected
  • No on-call requirement
  • Float between Adult Critical Care and NICU units
  • Uses Draeger V500, Draeger VN500, and Servo U ventilators
  • Cerner EMR experience required

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as an RRT in Adult Critical Care and NICU within the last 7 years
  • Completion of at least 1 prior travel assignment
  • BLS and CRT certifications required
  • MD State licensure or compact license required, license required if applicable
  • ACLS, NRP, PALS, and RRT certifications preferred
  • ED experience preferred
  • Teaching hospital, community hospital, Trauma Level I, and Trauma Level II experience preferred
  • Skilled in airway management devices and suctioning including endotracheal tube, extubation, nasal and oral airway placement, tracheostomy care, and sputum specimen collection
  • Proficient in ventilator management including BiPAP, CPAP, weaning from mechanical ventilation, and troubleshooting high pressure alarms
  • Comfortable drawing and analyzing ABGs and interpreting arterial blood gases
  • Experience with medication delivery systems and administration including nebulizers, MDIs, and various respiratory medications
  • Experience assisting in high risk deliveries and umbilical blood gases for neonatal/pediatric care
  • Bronchoscopy and additional medication experience preferred (Nitric Oxide, Ketamine, Inhaled Flolan, etc.)
  • Flu vaccine required

Additional Information

  • Provide comprehensive respiratory care including airway management, pulmonary hygiene, and ventilator management for critically ill adult and neonatal patients
  • Perform ABG interpretation and umbilical blood gas analysis
  • Assist in high risk deliveries as part of the NICU care team
  • Scrub color is ceil blue and scrubs are not provided
  • First-time travelers are not eligible for this position as at least 1 prior travel assignment is required
  • Local candidates within 60 miles of the facility are accepted at a lower rate
  • Candidates with previous employment at this healthcare system must have a separation period of at least one year before returning as a traveler
  • No more than 7 days of RTO permitted per 13-week contract, with no RTO allowed during the first two weeks of the assignment
