Respiratory Therapist
Job Description
The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care by delivering intensive respiratory care and facilitating patient transport within the facility as prescribed. Working within the scope of professional licensure and with minimal supervision, the therapist evaluates patients and recommends appropriate treatment plans. The therapist explains the purposes and procedures of treatments, tests, and equipment to patients, and offers vital education upon discharge.
Responsibilities
- Conduct physician-prescribed treatments while operating various ventilatory, oxygen, and aerosol devices to administer medications and ensure patient ventilation and oxygenation.
- Perform chest physiotherapy to promote secretion clearance and complete suctioning using various methods.
- Monitor patients using oximetry and capnography, and conduct routine chest x-ray reviews to assess further evaluation needs.
- Execute pulmonary function studies and assist with respiratory-related procedures such as bronchoscopy, chest tube placement, and tracheostomy care.
- Perform life-saving techniques including cardiopulmonary resuscitation according to BLS and ACLS guidelines.
- Maintain and monitor mechanical ventilation equipment, ensuring proper functionality and troubleshooting when necessary.
- Document all relevant treatment information and patient responses accurately in respiratory care records and charts.
- Communicate effectively with attending and pulmonary physicians regarding therapy effectiveness.
- Ensure accurate respiratory therapy charging through diligent data entry and error correction.
Schedule
This position follows a 3x12.0 Day shift schedule.
Assignment Duration
This is a 13-week contract position.
