Emphasis is placed on specialty areas such as Emergency, Neonatal, Pediatric, Geriatric, and Critical Care. Key responsibilities include monitoring mechanical ventilation, administering medications, conducting patient assessments, and understanding blood work results. The therapist will also perform troubleshooting with appropriate problem resolution regarding respiratory care instruments and equipment. Effective airway management is an essential duty, including bag/mask ventilation and assisting with intubation. Other responsibilities involve performing arterial blood gas draws and initiating, maintaining, and monitoring ventilator patients. The Certified Respiratory Therapist will maintain accurate documentation of all respiratory care procedures. Participation in departmental meetings, in-services, and patient care rounds is required. Supervisors should be kept informed of changes in workload and patient acuity. Continuous training and education, including department-specific requirements, are mandatory. Compliance with personal protective equipment requirements is essential for safety against exposure to hazardous substances. The role includes educating and training new employees and respiratory/nursing students. Demonstrating knowledge and skills appropriate for the age of the patient population served is crucial. Additional duties may be assigned as necessary. Candidates must maintain patient confidentiality, complete work within designated timeframes, and adhere to infection control and safety policies. Participation in performance improvement activities is expected to ensure compliance with regulations and policies.
