Description:
Registered Respiratory Therapist specializing in pediatrics.
RCP will be proficient in the following categories as applicable:
Medicated aerosol therapy using small volume nebulizers, breath actuated nebulizers, and vibrating mesh nebulizers.
Patient education for aerosol, MDI, DPI therapy including DPI, MDI, and holding chamber.
Administration of pentamidine.
Management of medication carts and Omnicell bar coding.
Airway clearance therapy including clapping, vibration, and directed cough techniques.
Utilization of positive expiratory pressure (PEP) and oscillatory PEP.
Hyperinflation therapies such as incentive spirometry and EZPAP.
Implementation of high frequency chest wall oscillation and intermittent percussive ventilation.
Use of acoustic airway clearance and cough assist devices.
Airway management including suctioning and tracheostomy care.
Assistance with manual ventilation and intubation.
Management of assisted and mechanical ventilation.
Conducting ventilator system checks, CPAP/BiPAP/NIMV management, and negative pressure ventilation.
Initiation and management of NAVA.
Delivery of surfactant and adherence to neonatal resuscitation protocols.
T-piece ventilation and blood gas sampling, analysis, and interpretation.
Administration of humidity therapy via various devices.
Adherence to clinical practice guidelines for asthma care, cystic fibrosis care, and RDS management.
Implementation of acute chest syndrome care pathways and HFNC protocols.
Conducting respiratory care consultations and executing nitric oxide protocols.
Monitoring patient status through pulse oximetry, peak flow meters, and capnography.
Conducting spontaneous breathing trials, transcutaneous CO2 monitoring, and overnight or continuous pulse oximetry studies.
Transporting patients using HFNC portable units and T-piece ventilation.
Participation in rapid response teams and management of oxygen and special gas therapy.
Use of nasal cannulas, oxygen masks, high flow nasal cannulas, oxygen tanks, blenders, and analyzers.
Administering inhaled nitric oxide with appropriate calibration and troubleshooting.
Experience with sub-ambient oxygen and Heliox therapy.
