Comprised of an acute care facility, the team provides exceptional care across various specialties. The role involves performing basic and critical respiratory care services. The practitioner must possess the ability to work independently and supervise others when needed. Respiratory care services are provided for adult and geriatric patients with respiratory diseases. Services are delivered in accordance with physician orders and department policies. Responsibilities include completing paperwork and electronic medical records for each patient. Essential Functions: Assess and document the appropriateness of prescribed therapy for patients receiving respiratory care services. Administer aerosol and oxygen therapy and maintain treatment charts. Draw arterial blood gases as per policy and physician orders. Provide care for ventilator patients. Assist in departmental record-keeping and operations. Participate in training and supervision of new employees. Document care provided and maintain treatment records. Assist nursing personnel in monitoring patients and equipment post-installation. Perform pulmonary function tests and provide additional patient care regarding cardiopulmonary disease. Offer suggestions on patient treatment and monitor pulmonary progress. Contribute to cardiopulmonary rehabilitation efforts. Instruct patients and families on the nature of cardiopulmonary diseases. Check all respiratory therapy equipment in use or on standby in patient areas. Ensure completion of initial ventilator bundle orders upon the initiation of mechanical ventilation. Ensure compliance with VAP bundle for all patients receiving mechanical ventilation. Identify measurable outcomes using appropriate therapeutic interventions. Update and communicate diagnoses as patient conditions and disease statuses change. Assist with maintenance of respiratory therapy equipment. Serve as a resource for physicians and hospital staff regarding respiratory care methods. Assist in stocking and reordering equipment and supplies. Maintain cleanliness of equipment for future use. Assist physicians with bronchoscopies and special procedures. Participate in quality control, scheduling, and competency assessments. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
