Description:
Responsible for the pulmonary care of critical, non-critical, and chronically ill adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients under the direction of a physician with minimal supervision.
Performs patient assessments and institutes respiratory care plans.
Performs various technical and diagnostic respiratory therapy procedures in all areas of the hospital.
Meets expectations of the applicable competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
Includes, but is not limited to: emergency response, airway management including nasotracheal and endotracheal suctioning, delivery of aerosolized drugs, and ventilator management.
Executes oral hygiene, airway retaining device placement and maintenance, and airway support device management including BiPAP and CPAP devices.
Manages oxygen delivery devices and therapeutic monitoring as well as chest film analysis.
Conducts blood gas collection and analysis, EKG analysis, and accurate documentation.
Responsible for cleaning and stocking equipment and supplies as necessary.
Participates in surveys and inspections.
May function as a Shift Leader or serve in the capacity of Team Leader.
Advanced practice skills may include therapeutic gas management and monitoring, pulmonary function testing, assisting in bronchoscopy, hemodynamic monitoring, waveform analysis, nocturnal SpO2 evaluation, and transport duties.
