Job Summary:
The Respiratory Therapist (Registered Respiratory Therapist - RRT) position is located in a healthcare setting providing advanced-level respiratory care to pediatric and adult patients. The role involves diagnosing, evaluating, and managing respiratory deficiencies or abnormalities within the physicians prescription. The Respiratory Therapist acts as a resource to certified respiratory therapy staff and may participate in special clinical projects or departmental assignments as needed.

Job Details:

  • Schedule: Nights shift, 12 hours per shift, minimum of 36 hours per week
  • Required Qualifications: Graduate of a National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) approved Respiratory Therapist program from an accredited institution; current license as a Registered Respiratory Therapist in the state of practice; Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; 0 years of experience required

  • Performs, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic testing procedures including arterial gases and respiratory assessments.
  • Oversees and troubleshoots medical equipment to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Initiates respiratory protocols and interventions based on clinical assessments.
  • Administers medications safely and evaluates their effects, communicating progress to staff and physicians.
  • Maintains awareness of patients' overall condition, making appropriate care recommendations.
  • Provides patient and family education on health promotion, wellness, and self-care techniques.
  • Completes accurate documentation of patient care and clinical activities, including productivity records.
  • Monitors supplies and equipment, notifying relevant personnel of low inventory or equipment issues.
  • Participates in quality improvement, patient safety initiatives, and research activities related to respiratory care.
  • May be required to float to other departments within scope of competency and qualifications based on operational needs.
  • May be placed on call during scheduled shifts.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
