Description

American Traveler is seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist for a critical care position requiring intubation experience and a minimum of 2 years of experience in a 300+ bed acute care hospital on night shift.

Details

  • Acute care setting within the Respiratory Therapy department
  • Adult ICU and floor patient population; NICU staffed separately under nursing management
  • Common conditions include COPD, CHF, pneumonia, respiratory failure, ARDS, and cancers
  • Performs nebulizer treatments, airway management, Vapotherm, BiPAP, CPAP, vent management, ABG collection, bedside PFTs, and CPT
  • In ICU, RTs place A-lines, manage blood gases, intubate patients, and perform bronchoscopies
  • Uses Servo vents (U and I models)
  • Charts using MEDITECH EMR
  • Night shift, 7p-7a schedule with 12-hour shifts
  • Works either M-Th or F-Sun team rotation with shifting hours based on team assignment
  • Rotates holiday coverage with permanent staff, averaging every other holiday
  • No on-call requirements
  • In-house hospitalist/intensivist coverage 24/7 for code response
  • 24/7 in-house pharmacy support
  • Average patient load of 13-15 patients per shift with approximately 550 minutes of treatment time
  • ICU assignments average up to 4 airways per therapist

Requirements

  • Current RRT certification required
  • GA state license required if applicable
  • BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required
  • NRP certification required if working in NICU
  • Minimum 2 years of experience required
  • Critical care experience required, including comfort with intubating patients
  • Experience in a 300+ bed facility required
  • Minimum of 1 completed travel contract required
  • Must be comfortable working adult ICU and managing vents, including reading ABGs and alerting on critical values
  • Floor assignments require minimum 1 year of experience

Additional Information

  • Respiratory therapists serve as first responders for intubations, with hospitalist support for codes
  • Team includes a Charge RT and Clinical Coordinator role
  • First week of orientation includes hospital and charting orientation, with gradually increasing patient load; ICU assignments include an additional week of orientation
  • High patient workload and heavy caseload expected
  • Scrub color requirement is ceil blue; ceil blue jacket permitted
  • Candidates must reside outside a 75-mile radius of the facility to be eligible for placement
  • Previous employees of the facility within the last 12 months are not eligible for placement
  • First-time travelers are not considered for this position due to travel contract experience requirement
