Radiation Therapist

Job Responsibilities

  • Administers radiation therapy in accordance with physician's instructions and the patient's treatment plan.
  • Enters data into computer systems, setting controls to operate and adjust equipment and regulate dosage.
  • Assists physicians, radiation oncologists, clinical physicists, and others to prepare the physical and technical aspects of radiation treatment plans based on patient condition and anatomy.
  • Constructs patient immobilization devices as ordered by physicians.
  • Maintains patient and billing records, reports, and files according to departmental policies, including details such as radiation dosages, equipment settings, and patient reactions.
  • Performs routine and complex radiation therapy treatments, including total body irradiation, stereotactic radiosurgery, and low and high brachytherapy, following established practices and standards.
  • Prepares treatment equipment and room for patient sessions.
  • Utilizes appropriate protective equipment and procedures to ensure the safety of patients, self, and others.
  • Performs quality assurance procedures in compliance with state and federal guidelines.
  • Provides on-the-job clinical instruction and evaluation for student radiation therapists.

Qualifications

Required Education

  • Graduation from a Radiation Therapy Technologist program accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT).

Required Certifications & Licensure

  • Radiation Therapy certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).

Additional Information

  • Elekta experience preferred.
  • Clinic hours are from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with varying shifts within these hours.
