Radiation Therapist

Job Responsibilities

  • Administers radiation therapy following physician instructions and the patient's treatment plan.
  • Inputs data into computer systems and adjusts equipment to regulate dosage accurately.
  • Collaborates with physicians, radiation oncologists, clinical physicists, and other professionals to prepare technical aspects of radiation treatment plans based on patient conditions and anatomy.
  • Constructs patient immobilization devices as prescribed by physicians.
  • Maintains comprehensive patient and billing records, including radiation dosages, equipment settings, and patient reactions, in accordance with department policies and procedures.
  • Performs routine and complex radiation therapy treatments, including total body irradiation, stereotactic radiosurgery, and low and high brachytherapy, adhering to established practices and standards.
  • Prepares equipment and treatment areas for patient sessions.
  • Employs appropriate protective equipment and procedures to ensure safety for patients, self, and others.
  • Conducts quality assurance procedures per state and federal guidelines.
  • Provides clinical instruction and evaluation for student radiation therapists as needed.

Required Education

Graduation from a Radiation Therapy Technologist program accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT).

Required Certifications & Licensure

Radiation Therapy certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).

Languages

  • English: Read, Write, Speak

Additional Notes

Experience with Elekta equipment is preferred. The clinic operates from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with shifts varying within these hours.
