Job Summary:
Psychiatric Unit Registered Nurse (RN) Elmira, NY. This position involves providing inpatient mental health care on a 25-bed acute psychiatric unit. The role includes performing patient rounds, taking vitals, assisting with patient care, facilitating group activities, and managing patient admissions. The RN may be trained to fulfill multiple responsibilities including charge nurse, admission nurse, and medication administration roles, with potential for floating within the hospital.
Job Details:
- Schedule: Rotating shifts with 2 eight-hour shifts from 1500 to 2330 and 2 twelve-hour shifts from 1100 to 2330, totaling 40 hours per week. Holidays and alternate weekends are required; scheduled weekends off require prior coverage unless specified within the Rostered Day Off (RDO). Blocked scheduling must be prearranged.
- Required Qualifications: Valid BLS (Basic Life Support) certification; ability to work in Elmira, NY; minimum of 1 year of clinical experience; relevant healthcare education or degree as applicable.
- Preferred Qualifications: Experience working in mental health or psychiatric settings; multitasking skills across clinical roles; familiarity with crisis intervention techniques; prior inpatient psychiatric experience preferred.
- Float: Float rotation may be required, involving coverage across units within the hospital.
- Additional Information: This is an inpatient psychiatric setting treating patients with acute psychosis, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and dual diagnoses. Staff are trained across multiple roles, including rounds, patient assessments, and group facilitation. Restraints are used only as a last resort, with clinical staff managing crisis interventions and security available for backup.
