Description
American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Progressive Care Unit/Telemetry position requiring ACLS, NIHSS, and prior travel experience with float requirements across multiple units.
Details
- Hospital-based Progressive Care Unit (PCU) and Telemetry setting covering PCU, Medical, Overflow, Observation, and Surgical floors
- Common diagnoses include stroke rule-out, chest pain, arrhythmias, abdominal pain, post-surgical care, altered mental status, dehydration, AKI, CHF, GI hemorrhage, and sepsis
- Patient ratios are 1:4 on PCU, Overflow, and Observation units and 1:5 on Medical and Surgical units, occasionally stretching to 1:6
- Nursing assistants/patient care techs support the unit at ratios of 1:8-11 depending on the unit, with some units having secretaries
- RT equipment includes CPAP and high-flow oxygen delivery systems
- Off-site tele monitoring is used, but RNs must read and interpret their own strips and communicate changes to the physician
- Uses Epic EMR
- 12-hour night shifts from 7p-7a
- Required to float to all PCU/Telemetry units within scope of practice, potentially working a different unit each shift, with rare floats to ICU for lower acuity holds or ER for boarders
- Minimum of 4 weekend shifts required within a 6-week period
- On-call not required
Requirements
- Active VA or Compact RN license
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- 1-2 years of experience with proficiency in neuro assessments and basic cardiac drips
- Experience titrating cardizem, amiodarone, and heparin drips required
- Epic EMR experience required
- Prior travel nursing experience required
- Must be able to read/interpret cardiac strips and pass an ECG exam
Additional Information
- Responsible for titrating drips and responding to changes in patient condition, including escalating to physicians as needed
- Orientation includes 3 shifts across 3 different units in addition to general facility orientation
- Navy scrubs required
- Holiday coverage required for 1 major and 1 minor holiday, with holiday team covering as needed
- Scheduling is managed by an administrative assistant, and travelers are expected to remain flexible to meet unit needs
