Job Summary
Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Registered Nurse (RN) Days The organization is seeking qualified RNs to provide specialized care on a progressive care unit. The role involves caring for surgical, trauma, and medical patients, including those with complex post-operative needs, requiring strong clinical skills, compassion, and attention to detail. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to ensure patient safety and satisfaction.
Job Details
- Shift: Days, 12-hour shifts, minimum of 36 hours per week
- Required Qualifications: Valid BLS (Basic Life Support) certification, NIHSS (National Institute of Health Stroke Scale) certification, 2 years of nursing experience in a comparable setting, licensed as a registered nurse
- Patient Types / Common Diagnoses: Surgical patients (gastrointestinal, orthopedic, trauma, gynecologic/oncology), sickle cell, general medical cases
- Patient Ratios: RN: 1:4-6, LPN: yes, CNA: 2 per shift, 1 clerical during the day
- Support within the Department: CNA, receptionist, charge nurse, laboratory staff, vascular access team, resource teams (sepsis and rapid response), shift coordinator during the day, RT (respiratory therapy) 24/7, hospitalist residents 24/7, specialists 24/7, intensivist 24/7, remote telemetry monitoring
- Technology / Equipment: Cerner electronic medical record system, Plum ICU medical infusion pump, Omnicell medication dispensing, Phillips monitors, sera steady, Arjo lifts, kangaroo pump, sapphire pump for PCA
- Float: Float to mixed acuity units only
- Orientation: 24 hours (3 days) with 1 day of unit orientation (12-hour shift at the end of week one and 12-hour shift at the start of week two)
- Scheduling: Every other weekend rotation, no on-call requirement, holiday scheduling based on facility plan, RTO approved through management, shift from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM (clock-in at 6:53 AM, required to be present for huddle at 7:00 AM)
- Other Notes: Scrub color is galaxy blue; parking is free onsite with badge access; unit culture emphasizes collaboration, patient-centered care, and strong teamwork. The environment supports a large population of oncology and post-operative patients, requiring clinical expertise and compassionate care.
