Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiology Stepdown/Progressive Care Unit position on nights, requiring a GA or compact license and at least 2 years of stepdown experience.

Details

  • Acute care Cardiology Stepdown Unit (4A/4B) caring for cardiothoracic, cardiovascular surgery, and CHF patients
  • 44-bed unit including 8 semiprivate rooms with a 1:5 nurse-to-patient ratio and 1:10 nurse aide ratio
  • Night shift schedule (7p-7a) for 36 hours per week
  • Every other weekend required
  • Uses Meditech EMR
  • Telemetry monitoring with Philips equipment, requiring strip reading and interpretation
  • Manages titrated drips including Cardizem, amiodarone, dobutamine, renal dose dopamine, lasix, bumex, heparin, Primacor, and Vaprosol
  • Non-invasive respiratory support only, including BiPap, CPAP, Vapotherm, and high flow oxygen (no full ventilators)
  • Floating to ICU limited to stepdown-level patients unless prior ICU experience is noted

Requirements

  • Active RN license (GA or compact) required
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of stepdown experience in an acute care setting required without exception
  • BSN not required
  • Experience reading and interpreting telemetry strips required
  • Preferred ability to pull pacer wires, with orientation provided if needed

Additional Information

  • Fast-paced unit with average daily census of 32-38 patients and 12-16 admissions/discharges per shift
  • 3-shift floor-specific orientation provided
  • Must be flexible to work as needed on holidays and surrounding days
  • Scrub color required: Caribbean blue
  • Dress code requires natural hair color, no fake nails or shellac, no facial piercings, and no visible tattoos
  • Must reside more than 75 miles from the facility to be eligible for placement
  • Not eligible for placement if previously employed by the facility within the last 12 months
  • In-house hospitalist/intensivist coverage available 24/7 along with dedicated PICC IV team, respiratory therapy, and pharmacy support
