Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring critical care drip and cardiac monitoring experience on a night shift schedule.

Details

• Progressive Care Unit within a hospital setting
• Unit has 34 beds (630) and 25 beds (633)
• Patient ratios of 1:4 to 1:5 on days and 1:5 to 1:6 on nights
• 3 techs available when 630 is full and 2 techs when 633 is full
• Uses BiPAP, high flow O2, Vapotherm, Alaris pumps, cardiac drips, heparin drips, insulin drips, and peritoneal dialysis equipment
• Wound vac management performed in conjunction with wound care team
• Documentation completed in Meditech
• Night shift schedule, 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM, three 12-hour shifts per week
• Every other weekend required per contract
• May float between PCU units or to med-surg floors
• Hourly rounding required on days and every 2 hours on nights, following AIDET standards

Requirements

• Active RN license (TN or compact) required
• Current BLS and ACLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Strong critical thinking skills and EKG rhythm interpretation ability required
• Experience with cardiac drips, insulin drips, and heparin drips required
• Peripheral IV skills required
• Peritoneal dialysis experience preferred
• Experience with BiPAP, high flow O2, and multiple oxygen delivery systems required
• Experience with stroke and post cardiac cath care required
• Experience with tube feedings and NG/Dobhoff tube management preferred
• Must have no employment gaps of 90 days or more within the past 12 months

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care including monitoring of cardiac drips, insulin and heparin drips, and post cardiac cath patients
• Assist with procedures performed on the unit including peritoneal dialysis, thoracentesis, paracentesis, chest tube insertions, Dobhoff/NG tube insertions, and central line dressing changes
• Troubleshoot wound vacs as part of daily patient care
• Utilize techs to assist with patient care duties
• Unit uses self-scheduling with 4-week scheduling cycles
• Required to work every other weekend per contract terms
• Black scrubs required as part of the dress code
• Team culture described as supportive with a strong sense of teamwork
• Most travelers choose to extend their contract after their first assignment on this unit
• Must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility, no local candidates accepted
