PCU Registered Nurse Job Requirements

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for practice in North Carolina
  • At least 2 years of professional nursing experience in progressive care, step-down, acute care, or medical-surgical settings
  • Previous experience caring for patients with tracheostomies
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications
  • Ability to provide safe, effective nursing care for progressive care and medical-surgical patients
  • Previous Cerner experience preferred
  • Flexibility and a high level of clinical competence

Progressive Care Unit RN Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to step-down and medical-surgical patients requiring close assessment, telemetry, and continuous monitoring
  • Care for patients with cardiac drips, chest tubes, tracheostomies, stable ventilators, and complex wounds
  • Perform tracheostomy care, chest tube management, and wound dressing changes
  • Monitor patient status, recognize changes in condition, and promptly communicate clinical concerns
  • Maintain accurate and timely nursing documentation in Cerner
  • Collaborate with providers, nursing colleagues, patient care technicians, and the interdisciplinary care team
  • Maintain safe patient ratios of approximately 1:3–4 in step-down care and 1:4–6 in medical-surgical care
  • Float to other medical-surgical and progressive care units as needed
  • Support a positive, adaptable, and patient-centered care environment
