Job Summary:
Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Registered Nurse (RN) position available in Springfield, Illinois. This role involves working in a fast-paced, acute care hospital with a Level I trauma center designation. The RN will provide specialized nursing care for adult patients requiring intermediate level monitoring and intervention, utilizing telemetry and other advanced skills to support patient recovery and safety.
Job Details:
- Schedule: 12-hour shifts during daytime hours (0645-1915), with flexibility to accommodate 4x12s if preferred.
- Required Qualifications: Minimum 1 year of nursing experience, active Illinois nursing license, Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS).
- Preferred Qualifications: ACLS certification, experience in telemetry, neuro stepdown, PCU/IMC.
- Float: Will float within scope to meet facility needs.
- Open to accommodating block schedules: Discuss with manager.
- Pending License: Active Illinois license required at time of application.
- RTO Restrictions: Preferably no more than 5 days.
- Special Requirements:
- Experience in telemetry, neuro stepdown, and PCU/IMC units.
- Skills include interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, use of rapid response teams, post-cardiac procedures, GI, GU, IV therapy, medication administration (including cardiac and vasoactive drips), neurological and orthopedic cases, respiratory management, and wound care.
- Must be able to manage ventilated patients with tracheostomies, chest tubes, and oxygen therapy.
- Proficient in Cerner charting system; hospital has interdisciplinary support including respiratory, pharmacy, phlebotomy, and social services.
- Unit Details:
- Adult patient age group, with a daily census of approximately 34 patients across 38 beds.
- Fast-paced environment with high patient throughput and a typical nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4.
- Must be able to handle special equipment including ventilators and tracheostomies.
- Requires 24 hours of orientation and completion of pre-start modules prior to start date.
