Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Progressive Care Unit position requiring 2 years of acute care experience with at least 1 year in PCU and an active OH or compact RN license.

Details

• 36-bed Oncology Telemetry unit with over 24 beds dedicated to PCU level of care
• Patient population includes solid tumor, orthopedic oncology, and thoracic oncology diagnoses
• Rare pediatric patients may be present but are primarily cared for by permanent staff
• 12-hour night shifts (19:00-7:30) on a 3x12 schedule, with possible rotation between day and night shifts based on department needs
• Staffing ratios of 1:4-5 for Med Surg Telemetry and 1:3 for PCU
• Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity level
• Uses GE B450 telemetry monitors, bladder scanner, Alaris pumps, Stryker beds, continuous bladder irrigation, and PCA pumps
• Epic charting system experience required
• Weekend shifts are variable

Requirements

• Active OH or compact RN license required in hand at time of consideration
• BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of current acute care nursing experience within the last 12 months
• At least 1 year of PCU experience required
• Oncology experience preferred but not required
• Teaching hospital experience preferred
• Nursing education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
• Skills required include interpretation of dysrhythmias, use of rapid response teams, feeding tube care, port access, blood product administration, central/peripheral/PICC line management, IV insertion, heparin protocols, cardiac drip management, PCA, chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac), external CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, ABG interpretation, nasal cannula, and tracheostomy management
• Preferred skills include dysrhythmia management, IV insulin protocols, insulin drip titration, phlebotomy, chemotherapy administration and monitoring, wound care/wound vac, arterial line management, surgical drains, and non-invasive airway management
• 2 professional references required, with at least 1 from a Manager/Director or formal leadership role; Charge RN acceptable for second reference; no coworker references accepted

• Heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention
• First week of orientation is Monday-Friday dayshift, followed by a second week with 36 hours of on-unit orientation with a preceptor
• Willingness to learn and grow nursing practice is valued

• Former employees eligible for a travel assignment once away from the facility for 6 months or more
• Current employees of Ohio State University hospital locations are ineligible to be hired as travelers
• RTO must be submitted and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less
