Job Title: Polysomnographic Technician Profession: Polysomnographic Technician Specialty: Polysomnography Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 36 hours Experience: Minimum of 1 year required, preferred more License: State license required Certifications: BLS, RPSGT or RRT-SDS Must-Have: - Experience with pediatric to geriatric patients - Comfortable with positive airway pressure (PAP) mask fitting - Knowledgeable in various therapeutic respiratory interventions (BiPAP, CPAP) - Ability to monitor electrodes, bands, thermistors, and other probes - Skills in machine troubleshooting and basic patient care Description: This position involves working in a sleep clinic with a focus on polysomnography. The technician will prepare for patient assessments starting at 7:30. They will conduct sleep studies and document baseline values such as body position, movements, and oxygen saturation. Technicians will need to be tech-savvy to troubleshoot machines as needed. Independence is key, as the technician may work alone depending on patient census. Patient types include outpatient, pediatrics to geriatrics, and individuals with various sleep disorders. Patient ratio is typically 1:2, with infants or patients under age 6 at a 1:1 ratio. A rotation schedule includes weekends every other week with no call required. The uniform for the role consists of pewter scrubs, with specific requirements for t-shirt colors and jackets. Badges are to be worn visibly above the waist at all times. The technician must be confident and capable of assisting with ambulation and other basic patient care needs.
