This Physical Therapist Assistant position is based in Waynesville, Missouri, a welcoming community nestled in the beautiful Missouri Ozarks. The position is within a skilled nursing and rehabilitation environment that serves adults and older adults requiring post-acute, long-term, and restorative care. The facility offers therapy services including physical, occupational, and speech-language pathology, supported by a team-oriented culture focused on evidence-based care and functional outcomes. You will work alongside experienced therapists and nursing staff who value collaboration, respect, and open communication.
As a Physical Therapist Assistant, you will provide direct patient care under the supervision of a Physical Therapist. Typical responsibilities include implementing individualized treatment plans, assisting with therapeutic exercise and strengthening programs, facilitating gait and mobility training, supporting balance and fall-prevention activities, and promoting safe transfers and functional independence. You will regularly monitor patient progress, communicate clinical observations to the supervising therapist, and adjust activities within your scope of practice to maximize outcomes.
A typical day may include: Reviewing the schedule and EMR to prioritize caseload and plan treatments Carrying out one-on-one or small-group therapy sessions focused on functional goals Providing education to patients and caregivers on exercises, safety strategies, and use of assistive devices Collaborating with the therapy team and nursing staff to support patient mobility and positioning throughout the day Documenting treatments, progress notes, and functional status changes in the EMR system Participating in team meetings or care conferences as requested
Patient acuity ranges from post-surgical and orthopedic rehab to medically complex, chronic conditions and general debility. Patient ratios and caseloads are designed to balance quality, safety, and productivity, with a strong emphasis on individualized care. The therapy environment is equipped with a variety of modalities, exercise equipment, and functional training spaces to support comprehensive rehabilitation.
Shifts are generally structured as full-time day shifts, often around an 8-hour schedule, with the possibility of some weekend or holiday rotation aligned with patient needs.
