Key Responsibilities of the Pharmacist

• Accept and dispense prescription medications.
• Monitor patient medication compliance and over-usage patterns.
• Ensure that the supply of medicines is within the law.
• Confirm that prescribed medicines to patients are suitable.
• Maintain confidential records of all patients and manage patient records and pharmacy files accurately.
• Advise patients on medicines, including usage, reactions, and answer their questions.
• Provide consultation on prescription and non-prescription medications regarding storage, dosage, side effects, and drug interactions.
• Deliver services to patients, such as smoking cessation, blood pressure measurement, and cholesterol management.
• Educate patients on proper handling of medical devices like blood pressure monitors and glucose meters.
• Compound medications for external or internal use.
• Prepare sterile solutions following proper procedures.
• Supervise pharmacy staff members including pharmacy technicians and clerks.
• Maintain appropriate inventory of pharmaceutical and medical supplies.
• Identify patient's drug-related problems and effectively communicate with physicians and healthcare practitioners.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, other pharmacists, and pharmacy interns.

Requirements of the Pharmacist

• Doctor of Pharmacy degree required.
• Licensed by the state pharmacy board.
