This opportunity is ideal for an experienced Pediatric ICU Registered Nurse (PICU RN) seeking to expand clinical practice across specialized pediatric units. The Portland 97239 area offers easy access to scenic parks, the Willamette River, outdoor recreation, and the vibrant culture of the Pacific Northwest.

Travel Nursing Job Details

  • Position: Pediatric Critical Care Float Pool Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Contract Type: 13-week travel nursing contract
  • Estimated Weekly Pay: $2,200–$2,320
  • Location: Portland, Oregon 97239
  • Start Date: November 3, 2026
  • End Date: February 2, 2027
  • Schedule: 3 shifts per week; 36 hours per week
  • Shift Duration: 12-hour day shifts, approximately 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
  • Weekend Coverage: Every other weekend
  • Holiday Availability: Must be available to work at least two of the three major winter holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day
  • Patient Population: Neonates, infants, children, and adolescents
  • Floating: Required across pediatric units, including PICU and NICU; floating to nearby affiliated locations may be required
  • Patient Ratios: Approximately 1:2 to 1:4, depending on unit and acuity
  • Electronic Medical Record: Epic experience required

Pediatric Critical Care RN Job Requirements

  • Active Registered Nurse license eligible for practice in Oregon; valid Oregon RN license preferred at submission
  • At least 2 years of recent pediatric critical care nursing experience
  • Prior experience caring for critically ill pediatric patients; PICU nursing experience required
  • Experience caring for neonatal patients and willingness to float to the NICU
  • Current BLS or BCLS, PALS, and NRP certifications
  • Current traditional AHA certification cards required; RQI is not accepted
  • Recent Epic clinical documentation experience
  • Demonstrated ability to float between pediatric units and adapt quickly to changing patient populations and acuity levels
  • First-time travel nurses are welcome if all clinical requirements are met
  • Ability to complete required compliance documentation and pre-start learning modules before the start date
  • Professional references and a complete seven-year work history, including employment dates and locations, are required

Pediatric Travel RN Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, compassionate, and evidence-based nursing care to pediatric and neonatal patients across multiple acuity levels
  • Float to pediatric acute care, intermediate care, oncology, PICU, and NICU units based on staffing and patient-care needs
  • Care for patients with medical, surgical, cardiology, neurology, oncology, trauma, orthopedic, pulmonary, and complex critical care diagnoses
  • Monitor and manage ventilated patients, tracheostomies, hemodynamic status, and intracranial pressure when applicable
  • Interpret dysrhythmias and support the management of complex cardiac and critical care conditions
  • Administer medications, insulin, blood products, and pediatric weight-based dosages safely
  • Perform urinary catheter care, infection prevention practices, isolation precautions, and other essential bedside nursing procedures
  • Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, rehabilitation professionals, social services, rapid response teams, and other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team
  • Document assessments, interventions, patient responses, and care plans accurately in Epic
  • Provide family-centered education, emotional support, and clear communication throughout the patient’s care
